Default not all switches are the same

thanks for all the replies....
I received my heavy duty, weather-proof switch form Galaxy this week (like the one in the picture posted by RD...).
I was very surprised when I installed it this morning.
Not only did it solve my problem, but I actually get a stronger signal quality.
For instance, the signal quality that I used to get for RTN was always only around 30. After the new install, it's now over 65...
so, I guess WSI makes a top notch switch.
thanks again all......

and just for the record, if you wrap a regular disqc switch in Tyvek instead of a plastic bag, it will be able to breath...condensation won't form.

Thanks for the review and the update. This is something to keep in mind.

I was baffled at first...I posted on another FTA forum and got suggestions like, "sounds typical of a Viewsat Ultra", and "I had an Invacom QPH-031 that lost one side during a very cold spell". What gave me a clue was all the other ports on my (bad) switch were working, so it couldn't have been the lnb. I was still getting Ion on 119, which was on another port of the same switch and a different dish altogether. My upstairs receiver, also a Viewsat on the second side of the lnb, is working just fine...although it is on another switch.
Deductive reasoning seems to be to best tool for diagnosing these sorts of problems...second only to posting at forums for first hand help and suggestions.
I'm relieved it was just the switch. I was able to access it with little to no difficulty. If it was the lnb, I would have had to wait until spring...I'm 60 and not adventurous enough (any more) to set up and climb a 40ft. ladder on ice and snow and scramble up the gable end of a 12 pitch roof.

I had an LNB go bad on a KU dish, I had the sent the motor in for testing and the receiver as well. Replaced all the coax with copper core still I was having trouble. The dish would move a few times and quit, move once or twice and quit. Picture was great, signal was good. The LNB was the last thing I changed and that resolved the problem. It was a universal one. But what I found, when I brought the LNB in the house, it started to get damp so I think it was cracked but could not see the crack, it may have been the seam where it was joined together.
I'm 65 and I don't go on my roof either, my dish is on the ground, thank goodness.
